I’m in the process of editing my second novel with Sapphire Blue Publishing and I love the process. It isn’t as much fun as writing the first draft but it is exciting to see the rough edges smoothed and polished.
While I’m editing, I’m updating my Twitter, Facebook and Myspace status with the number of “Editor Love Notes” I have left.
My publisher and a few other writers got the joke and got quite a kick out of it.
Others just scratch their heads and say “Oh, that’s Lisa. She’s just crazy.”
Crazy like only an Air Force Cop can be but I digress.
I don’t like saying I have 300 edits to make to a manuscript because that implies errors and they aren’t. They’re opportunities to improve the story.
If there is one thing that trips my trigger, it is improving the story!
So I call them “Editor Love Notes”.
My hope is that my editor and I can love on this manuscript enough that readers will love the final draft that becomes “A Taste of Liberty”.
Until that time, feel free to follow my progress.

Awesome post, Lisa. I am awaiting the fruit of your labors with baited breath. “Love notes”… will have to remember that one for my next round of edits!

Thanks, Virg! You’ll be one of the first to know when this one is done

That’s a great positive spin! I have a book scheduled for April with Sapphire Blue, right at the end of tax season… Send some positive vibes my way! Or pass the bottle…

Brit, you know I’d share my bottle with you anytime!

Love this idea, Lisa! It’s actually better than word count as a gauge, because there’s more effort involved in a single note than in a single word. Now, if the editors’ notes could just little satin slips of soft scent, it would be a really pleasant experience. Good Luck!

I have a lovely editor who sprinkles her love notes with giggle notes and tells me whenever my characters make her laugh.
It eases the blow

Hi Lisa!
Fun post! I admire your way of making something that many would see as negative and turning it into a positive. That’s creativity at its best!
It’s hard to get feedback on our “babies”, especially when the comments feel like you’ve been given the People’s Elbow. (ha! sorry, I seem to associate writing with wrestling! lol)
I think it will be fun to follow your journey! Here’s wishing you tons of success with your edits!
Smile!,

“The People’s Elbow” was not lost on me. I loved The Rock when he wrestled. Now, I think we need a People’s Romantic Comedy…
Oh, yeah…
But I digress.
We’ve got to stay positive in this business. I got smacked down by 55 agents before I hit pay dirt with a contest. Either you suck it up or quit – and I don’t quit.
I enjoyed reading your blog and look forward to reading your book. Good luck and much success to you too!
